My Tips & Tricks For Keeping Your Mind Healthy

Often we only hear about how to keep our bodies physically fit and healthy. It’s all about what we eat, how often we exercise and not eating that piece of cake!

Keeping our minds healthy is just as important.

I’ve listed a few of my tips and tricks below which I use to keep my mind ticking! Take a look, and let me know if you have any more to add on. I’m always looking for new ways to keep my mind healthy and happy. 

Do something purely for you

If you like baking, bake. If you want to start a new hobby, join a class. Take a few hours out each week, and dedicate it to doing something you’ve always wanted to do. You don’t have to be an expert, it can simply be fun. Just give it a go –

Write a journal

Writing down your thoughts is a simple and easy way to give yourself a little therapy. Sometimes it’s easier to write things down, than say them out loud. You might also learn more about yourself than you care to think..


I cannot stress enough how much exercise can take your mind away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. General ‘life’ can be overwhelming; early starts, hard working days, skipping that lunch break again and doing it all over. It’s knackering! A little exercise can teleport you away for just half an hour and clear your mind. And it doesn’t have to be running a marathon, it can be taking a daily walk around the park. Just choose whats right for you.

Listen to a podcast

I’ve been listening to ‘Richard Nicholls – Motivate Yourself’ podcasts over the last few months. And this is my monthly therapy. These are 15 or so minute podcasts based on different topics each month and it’s a great way to start the day. When I walk to the tube in the morning or just around the park a few times before starting work, I stick one of these on and I just feel relaxed. It eases me into the day.

Fake it til’ you make it

Self-confidence is something nearly all of us will struggle with at some point in our lives. Have you heard the saying ‘fake it til’ you make it’? This applies to so many things! For example, some days I find myself really unhappy with the way I look. To combat this negative voice in my head, I tell myself that I’m beautiful, my legs aren’t huge and my big toe isn’t really that big! Just keep telling yourself, and one day, you might really believe it.

Satisfy your craving

Eating healthily is important but doing it 100% of the time is simply unrealistic. Give yourself a treat each week, and enjoy it. Don’t feel guilty about it; one brownie isn’t going to ruin the hard work you’ve put in.

 Set yourself realistic targets

A lot of people start running, and run too far and too fast on their first go. There’s no doubt people give up so quickly. Give yourself a realistic target which you know is within reach. You’ll feel a great sense of achievement when you get there and you’ll be far more likely to keep going, and set yourself more and more targets. Before you know it, you will have cracked that first 5k! Next stop, 10.

Don’t compare yourself to others

This is something, admittedly, I do all of the time! Even though I know I shouldn’t. It’s really hard not to compare yourself to others, but remember, we are each on our own paths. Go at your own pace, and be happy with the choices you make. If you’re not happy, make a change.

Do something for someone else

Do something nice for a friend, family member or even a passer-by. Not only will this brighten their day, but it will give you a lift too! You never know, they might return the favour by doing something for somebody else, and before you know it there’s a domino effect.

Just be yourself

Last but certainly not least, just be you!
